Promotional Guidelines

To promote you must play with good posture. Check your posture against this list:

   violin/viola   cello   bass

This is what you need to know to promote:

    Orchestra  Beginning Ensembles

VIOLIN/VIOLA

BVE A / BVlaE A

o Has mastered the proper form for his/her instrument, demonstrating consistent good position and bow hold.  See Position Checklist.

o Repertoire performed for promotional jury is memorized.

o Has mastered all of the Twinkle Variations using stopped bows, and is currently performing repertoire between Lightly Row and Andantino.

o Scales:  One octave, one note per bow:  Violin:  A & D Major            Viola:  D & G Major

o Can name open strings and names of notes used in present repertoire.

 

BVE B / BVlaE B

o Has mastered the proper form for his/her instrument, demonstrating consistent good position and bow hold.  See Position Checklist.

o Has mastered all required skills for previous ensembles.

o Repertoire performed for promotional jury is memorized.

o Has mastered all of the Twinkle Variations using stopped bows, and is currently performing repertoire between Etude and Two Grenadiers.

o Plays with independent fingers.

o Scales:  One octave, one note per bow:

      Violin:  A, D, and 2 octave G Major                        Viola:  D, G, and 2 octave C Major

o Can name open strings and names of notes used in present repertoire.

o Note reading:  Sight reads rhythms consisting of half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes on open strings, and identifies open strings on staff

 

 

CELLO/BASS

BCE A / BVlaE A / BBE

o Has mastered the proper form for his/her instrument, demonstrating consistent good position and bow hold.  See Position Checklist.

o Repertoire performed for promotional jury is memorized.

o Has mastered all of the Twinkle Variations and is currently performing repertoire between Lightly Row and Andantino.

o Scales:  One octave, one note per bow.

                        Cello:  D, G                 Bass:  G Major

o Can name open strings and names of notes used in present repertoire.

 

BCE B / BVlaE B

o Has mastered the proper form for his/her instrument, demonstrating consistent good position and bow hold.  See Position Checklist.

o Has mastered all required skills for previous ensembles.

o Repertoire performed for promotional jury is memorized.

o Has mastered all of the Twinkle Variations and is currently performing repertoire between Etude and the end of book 1.

o Scales:  One octave, one note per bow:  D and G Major

                  Two octaves, one note per bow:  C Major

o Can name open strings and names of notes used in present repertoire.

o Note reading:  Sight reads rhythms consisting of half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes on open strings, and identifies open strings on staff
